Peter Heals a Lame Beggar

31 07 2007

One day Peter and John went to pray at the temple, at the gate of the temple there was a lame beggar, crippled from birth. When they walked past him Peter said “Look at me!” The lame man looked at them, expecting to get a gift from them. Peter said that he had no money but he could give him something even better, then he healed the man so he could walk! The man went walking and running a leaping and shouting and jumping and praising God. All who saw him were astonished!

Archimedes’ Principle

2 05 2007

Some ships weigh hundreds or thousands of tons, yet they float. How is that possible?! The answer begins with one of the oldest and most famous story in the history of science. Imagine you were going to take a bath, you fill the bath right up to the very brim, and then you sit down in it. What do you think will happen? Lots and LOTS of water would come pouring onto the floor(don’t try it unless you want to do a lot of mopping up afterwards!!) According to the story this is just what happened to the scientist Archimedes, he sat in an overly full bathtub an then lots and LOTS of water came pouring out! Archimedes had been thinking about why some things float while others float, it couldn’t be a matter of weight because Greek ships were very heavy and yet a tiny pebble sinks to the bottom of the sea. What Archimedes found in this bathtub was the law of buoyancy(this is usually known as Archimedes principle in his honor!). Archimedes principle says: Any floating object pushes aside or displaces its own weight of water. So if a boat weighs 500 pounds it must push aside 500 pounds of water.

The Natural Law

1 05 2007

Almost everyone knows what a law is, for instance a speed limit. If you go higher than the speed limit you get fined or something. But what is a natural law?? A natural law is a law that is not something person made up, its a law that is natural. For instance the Natural law of gravity, (on earth) if you threw a ball in the air and bet everything you owned that it would come back down it would be a safe bet. In some places the law(such as a speed limit) is different from another, but the natural law is the same EVERYWHERE!(almost)
